Here we are with a new episode of the Channel Zero podcast.

Writer, standup comedian, and performer John Mulaney has been writing for “Saturday Night Live” for years and Tina Fey name-checked him in her best-seller, Bossypants. He’s a prolific creator and his newest special, an hour of standup on Comedy Central called “New In Town,” aired at the end of January and was released a week later on DVD/iTunes. I talked with John a week before the premiere about how he put the show together as well as how some of the bits originated. He’s a very funny guy so I hope you look for it to be repeated on Comedy Central or check out the DVD. The guy’s brilliant and I hope to see more of him this year.

TNT’s “Men of a Certain Age” is one of our favorite shows, hands down, so it was with pleasure that we spoke with showrunner Mike Royce about what’s going with the show this season. We’ve been following each other on Twitter for almost 2 years and finally met in person at the Peabody Awards in May. Mike is a patient and funny guy who I forced to sit through one of my bits about opossums. If you haven’t seen “Men of a Certain Age” I highly recommend it. Yes, it’s about 3 guys who have reached middle age but you don’t have to be a middle-aged guy to appreciate the great writing and acting the show has to offer. There is also some perfect “real world” humor in the show – the kind you would have between friends, not the sitcom style, set-up/punchline type jokes.

Host Thomas Attila Lewis rehashes some recent interviews/developments: seeing Bill Burr in NYC and working on a video with him; doing stand up in Northampton, MA and Albany, NY; and upcoming interviews. The gem in this podcast is the 5 minute clip of Louis C.K. on location in New York City shooting scenes for FX’s “Louie”. It’s about 19 minutes into the podcast if you get sick of the lame banter.
