You see comedian Jo Koy on “Chelsea Lately” all the time but go see him in a theater show where there are thousands of people there just to see him. I spoke to Jo in late March just before his Comedy Central special, “Jo Koy: Lights Out,” premiered on April 1st. It was a real pleasure to talk to him. I suggest you check out the unedited DVD version of unrated version of “Lights Out” with extras and material that never made it to TV.

Writer, standup comedian, and performer John Mulaney has been writing for “Saturday Night Live” for years and Tina Fey name-checked him in her best-seller, Bossypants. He’s a prolific creator and his newest special, an hour of standup on Comedy Central called “New In Town,” aired at the end of January and was released a week later on DVD/iTunes. I talked with John a week before the premiere about how he put the show together as well as how some of the bits originated. He’s a very funny guy so I hope you look for it to be repeated on Comedy Central or check out the DVD. The guy’s brilliant and I hope to see more of him this year.

Why am I highly recommending Marc Maron’s WTFpod episode with Michael Ian Black when it isn’t particularly “funny”? First of all, there are plenty of podcasts that involve comedians that don’t have funny episodes. There are plenty of moments of laughter in this episode of WTFpod so it can’t be said that humor found no purchase with these two gentlemen, after all, they are two of the funniest people on earth. I recommend this episode because despite all the backhanded compliments and pointed ribbing, it was fascinating to hear two people with a long history hear each other out on what may have contributed to their rocky past.
