You see comedian Jo Koy on “Chelsea Lately” all the time but go see him in a theater show where there are thousands of people there just to see him. I spoke to Jo in late March just before his Comedy Central special, “Jo Koy: Lights Out,” premiered on April 1st. It was a real pleasure to talk to him. I suggest you check out the unedited DVD version of unrated version of “Lights Out” with extras and material that never made it to TV.

Here we are with a new episode of the Channel Zero podcast.

Writer, standup comedian, and performer John Mulaney has been writing for “Saturday Night Live” for years and Tina Fey name-checked him in her best-seller, Bossypants. He’s a prolific creator and his newest special, an hour of standup on Comedy Central called “New In Town,” aired at the end of January and was released a week later on DVD/iTunes. I talked with John a week before the premiere about how he put the show together as well as how some of the bits originated. He’s a very funny guy so I hope you look for it to be repeated on Comedy Central or check out the DVD. The guy’s brilliant and I hope to see more of him this year.

Why am I highly recommending Marc Maron’s WTFpod episode with Michael Ian Black when it isn’t particularly “funny”? First of all, there are plenty of podcasts that involve comedians that don’t have funny episodes. There are plenty of moments of laughter in this episode of WTFpod so it can’t be said that humor found no purchase with these two gentlemen, after all, they are two of the funniest people on earth. I recommend this episode because despite all the backhanded compliments and pointed ribbing, it was fascinating to hear two people with a long history hear each other out on what may have contributed to their rocky past.

I like both of these guys very much and have had the pleasure of speaking them on a few occasions. Most recently, I talked to Michael Ian Black for the Channel Zero podcast. Have a listen here:

And this Spring I got to speak with Marc Maron who was very kind to me despite the intimidating prospect of interviewing someone I consider to be one of the best interviewers in the world:

Both of these guys are incredible performers so I also highly recommend that you pick up their most recent recordings, Marc Maron’s This Has To Be Funny and Michael Ian Black’s Very Famous. Find out more about Marc Maron’s tour schedule and other info at his website, as well as all of Michael Ian Black’s pertinents at his website.

Paul Scheer, currently playing André on FX’s “The League,” and the creator of, and star of Adult Swim’s “NTSF:SD:SUV” talked to us earlier this summer about “NTSF” and what makes Adult Swim so great. We also touched on Paul’s podcast, How Did This Get Made, “The League,” and lots of other cool stuff. He’s a super nice guy in addition to being a comedy genius. Please check out his podcast, follow him on Twitter, and watch “NTSF” on Adult Swim’s website.

Comedian, voice actor, chameleon genius, Maria Bamford generously gave us an hour of her time to talk bout comedy, her work on the fantastic animated series “Adventure Time,” and how she approaches creating her amazing characters. You’ve seen her on The Comedians of Comedy documentary as well as “The Sarah Silverman Program,” and countless spots on late night TV like “The Tonight Show,” and very recently “Conan” – I was so very lucky to speak with this amazing artist. Be sure to check out Maria’s website for her tour dates and her CDs, I highly recommend Unwanted Thoughts Syndrome, and follow her on Twitter at @MariaBamfoo.

TNT’s “Men of a Certain Age” is one of our favorite shows, hands down, so it was with pleasure that we spoke with showrunner Mike Royce about what’s going with the show this season. We’ve been following each other on Twitter for almost 2 years and finally met in person at the Peabody Awards in May. Mike is a patient and funny guy who I forced to sit through one of my bits about opossums. If you haven’t seen “Men of a Certain Age” I highly recommend it. Yes, it’s about 3 guys who have reached middle age but you don’t have to be a middle-aged guy to appreciate the great writing and acting the show has to offer. There is also some perfect “real world” humor in the show – the kind you would have between friends, not the sitcom style, set-up/punchline type jokes.
